Police Seal Illegal Tin Melting Warehouse in Bangka, Secure 1 Worker and 300 Kg Tin

JAKARTA - The Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police (Polda) secured an illegal tin ore smelting warehouse, as a commitment of the police to regulate illegal mining and processing of tin in the area.

"Yes, the Subdit Gakkum Team of the Police Sub-Directorate of Law Enforcement and Maritime Security has managed to raid one of the warehouses in Bangka, suspected of illegal activities of tin sand smelting," said Head of Public Relations of the Babel Islands Police, Kombes Pol Agus Sugiyarso, in Pangkalpinang, Thursday, quoted by Antara.

He said that in the raid on the warehouse that smelted tin ore into tin blocks in Batu Rusa Village, Merawang District, Bangka Regency, Babel, the Babel Police Sub-Directorate Gakkum Polairud Team managed to secure one worker and 12 tin blocks and tin smelting equipment.

"The team managed to secure one worker and 12 lead blocks that had been printed weighing approximately 300 kilograms," he said.

He stated based on the information from the workers who were secured, that the owner of the illegal tin smelting warehouse was initials MJ alias W alias Jepang (31) a resident of Batu Rusa, Bangka Regency.

Meanwhile, the tin sand that was melted in the suspect's warehouse was purchased from a tin sand mining in the Jada Bahrin Merawang River Basin, Bangka Regency.

He stated that the suspect's actions were subject to Article 161 of Law Number 2 of 2025 concerning the fourth amendment to Law Number 4 of 2009 concerning Minerba Jo Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning adjustment of criminal Article 161.

Every person who accommodates, utilizes, processes and/or refines, develops and/or uses, transports, sells minerals and/or coal that does not originate from the holder of the IUP, IUPK, IPR, SIPB or permit as referred to in Article 35 paragraph (3) letter c and letter g, Article 104, or Article 105 shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a maximum of 5 years.

"Currently, the suspect and evidence have been secured at the Mako Polairud for further legal proceedings," he said.
