200 Red and White Fishermen Villages in Papua Built This Year
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has mapped 200 potential locations for the construction of the Merah Putih Fishermen Village (KNMP) in five provinces in the Papua region, namely Papua, West Papua, South West Papua, South Papua and Central Papua.
Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said that 184 locations had been proposed for inclusion in this year's development target.
He emphasized that the determination of the location of construction in Papua was based on fishing activities and the status of the land was clear.
"The key is the first point of the region. Number two is the location land. The land is at least above 500 square meters, if it can be 1,000 square meters, unless the hub can be wider. Third, we map the access for the road," said Trenggono as quoted from a written statement, Thursday, February 12.
Trenggono added that the construction of the fishing village is part of the big target of building 1,000 KNMP locations throughout Indonesia throughout 2026.
Later, said Trenggono, the construction of a new location for a fishing village in Papua will use an integrated cluster system. This system connects fishermen with KNMP buffers, KNMP Hub, cluster centers to be distributed to wider markets.
His party also involved various institutions, such as the local government, the Navy, to the ranks of the Prosecutor's Office to ensure supervision and the success of the project.
"So, I think this must work together, work together to succeed in making KNMP successful. Hopefully, in five years there will be no slum fishing villages," he said.
Furthermore, the plan to build a fishing village is targeted to enter the finalization phase by the end of 2026.
Through the development of the KNMP, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries hopes that the Papuan people will be able to manage marine potential independently and sustainably.
