Seskab: President Prabowo Continues to Monitor the Recovery of the Sumatra Disaster
JAKARTA - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said President Prabowo Subianto continued to monitor the development of the recovery of disaster-affected areas in Sumatra, and asked the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force and relevant ministers to regularly convey developments to the public.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Teddy, at a press conference on the acceleration of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Sumatra region, Wednesday, February 11.
"President Prabowo continues to monitor the development of disaster recovery and wants the Task Force and each relevant minister to continue to provide periodic updates to the public," said Teddy as quoted by ANTARA.
The Secretary of the Cabinet explained that after two months of post-disaster handling, data and conditions in the field showed concrete results from the rapid work of the government supported by the TNI, Polri, volunteers, and community participation. The recovery of infrastructure and basic services is considered to have progressed significantly in various sectors.
Teddy revealed that in the housing sector, as many as 5,500 housing units had been completed, including 1,500 units completed in the first month of handling.
In addition, it was recorded that 98 bridges had been rebuilt and 99 national roads that had been affected were now fully functional.
The recovery of public services, he said, also showed progress with 87 hospitals and 867 health centers returning to serve the community.
Almost all schools in the disaster-affected areas have also resumed learning activities, while markets and chains of economic activities have begun to gradually recover.
In addition to physical development, the government also prioritizes the distribution of funds to local governments as well as direct assistance to disaster-affected residents.
"The President did not hesitate to provide what was needed as soon as possible," said the Presidential Secretariat, Teddy.
Regarding the holy month of Ramadan, Teddy said President Prabowo paid attention to the stability of prices and the availability of food in disaster-affected areas so that the community's needs could be met well and remain affordable.
"Regarding one week before Ramadan, the President wants to ensure that the prices and availability of food stocks are really there and really affordable in disaster-affected areas," he concluded.
