Dozens of Marka Jalan Cat Eyes in Cawang Lost Stolen
JAKARTA - The East Jakarta Transportation Service (Sudinhub) revealed that as many as 18 road marking nails that can reflect light (cat's eyes) on the lane divider around the underpass in the Cawang area, East Jakarta, were stolen.
"We immediately checked and counted the number of missing. In one location alone, 18 missing cat eyes were found," said Head of Operations Sudinhub East Jakarta, Emiral August Dwinanto, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday.
He, when checking at the crime scene (TKP), East Jakarta, Wednesday, said that his party immediately went to the location after seeing the video of the theft that circulated on Instagram.
According to Emiral, the results of the data collection will then be reported to the leadership for follow-up.
In addition, Emiral explained, based on the circulating video footage, the theft was carried out forcibly using tools such as chisels. This shows the intentional element of the perpetrator.
If you look at the video, it seems like it was forcibly removed and used a chisel.
"So there is indeed an intention to steal. Even though this is a public facility that must be maintained together," he said.
Emiral emphasized that stealing public facilities cannot be tolerated because it can endanger road users.
"This cat's eyes are part of the road markings. If there is no flashing, it can be fatal. Drivers can go the wrong way or even hit the road divider," he said.
The presence of cat eyes is very important, especially at night, because it serves as a visual marker for drivers.
"Especially at night, because the lights are on. If it is lost, the risk of accidents is greater," he said.
When asked about the possibility of reporting to the Police, Emiral said that his party was still waiting for instructions from the leadership.
"For the report to the police, we are still waiting for the leadership's direction. The most important thing now is that we have checked on the ground," said Emiral.
In addition to Cawang, Sudinhub East Jakarta is also still conducting data collection at other locations to determine whether there are other points that have experienced similar losses.
"I don't know if there are any other places, it's still being checked," said Emiral.
Several motorcyclists are uneasy with the prevalence of theft of road studs that can reflect light (cat's eyes) on the lane divider around the underpass in the Cawang area, East Jakarta (Jaktim).
"Of course it's worrying, but what's the name of a thief, it's just a pity. The street reflector has a light if it's night, it's made so that you know there's a barrier," said one of the motorcyclists, Sibarani (63) when he was found at the crime scene (TKP) in Cawang, East Jakarta, Wednesday.
According to Sibarani, this action can endanger the safety of motorists, especially at night.
Moreover, Sibarani said, the cat's eyes have an important function as a lane marker so that drivers can see the road limits when the lighting conditions are minimal.
Viral on the Instagram social media @jakarta.terkini a masked man was caught on camera forcibly poking the eyes of a street cat around the Cawang underpass, East Jakarta.
In the video that went viral, the man was seen using a hammer to remove the cat's eye embedded in the road body.
