Amazing! Even After Death, the Ford Fiesta is Still the Best-Selling Used Car in the UK for Four Consecutive Years

JAKARTA - Even though production has been discontinued since 2023, the Ford Fiesta still retains the throne as the best-selling used car in the UK throughout 2025.

According to the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), reported by TopGear, Wednesday, February 11, as many as 303,090 units of used Ford Fiesta changed hands last year, making it the number one for the fourth consecutive year.

Interestingly, this position is not new for Fiesta. This iconic supermini model has topped the used car sales in the UK since 2009. That means it has been perched on top for more than 15 years.

The high sales of used Ford Fiesta cars show how much British consumers love this fun-to-drive, efficient, and affordable small car even though it is no longer produced

Behind the Fiesta, the top 10 list of best-selling used cars in 2025 is still dominated by traditional hatchbacks (only one SUV is included):

Ford Fiesta - 303,090 units Vauxhall Corsa - 247,853 units Volkswagen Golf - 226,082 units Ford Focus - 218,962 units BMW 3 Series - 157,343 units Mini - 154,527 units Volkswagen Polo - 153,583 units Vauxhall Astra - 149,410 units Nissan Qashqai - 145,207 units Audi A3 - 125,752 units

Almost all of the top 10 are compact hatchbacks, which confirms British consumers' preference for small cars that are practical, fuel-efficient, and easy to park in dense cities. In addition to the dominance of the Fiesta, the overall British used car market is growing positively. Total transactions reached 7,807,872 units in 2025, up 2.2 percent from 2024 - marking the third consecutive year of growth. Most notable is the surge in sales of electric/hybrid used cars:

Used electrified vehicles (BEV + PHEV + mild hybrid) rose 30.9 percent to 770,378 units. Former full electric (BEV) jumped 45.7 percent to 274,815 units. Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) rose 6.3 percent to 88,032 units. Mild hybrid grew 28.6 percent to 407,531 units.

"The third year of used car sales growth shows the resilience of the market. The recovery in new car demand increases choice and affordability - especially for EVs - in the used market. The record number of buyers switching indicates greater confidence in zero or ultra-low emission vehicles. However, to maintain momentum and accelerate fleet renewal for the decarbonization of the road, it all starts with a strong and sustainable new car market," said SMMT CEO Mike Hawes.

Color trends are also interesting: black remains a favorite (1.7 million units sold, 21.2 percent share), followed by gray (18.2 percent), white (rising to third place with 16.0 percent), while green has the largest year-on-year spike.
