IBM and Meta Expand AI Alliance to Indonesia, Strengthen Open-Source AI Ecosystem

AI Alliance, a global non-profit consortium founded by IBM together with Meta, announced its expansion into Indonesia to encourage the development of responsible AI and digital innovation at the regional level.

This initiative complements the lineup of regional representatives of the AI Alliance in various countries in the APAC region, such as Thailand, Japan, and India.

The presence of the AI Alliance in Indonesia is focused on answering these various challenges through the development and development of open-source-based AI solutions to further democratize access and maximize the potential of Indonesian AI.

By working together to develop AI devices, resources, and educational opportunities with the AI Alliance community, this initiative aims to empower business actors, developer talent, and local communities.

Ciputra University became the first member in Indonesia, followed by a number of other organizations who are currently applying for membership.

"Indonesia is one of the most dynamic digital economies in Southeast Asia, and we welcome the opportunity to work with local partners to drive responsible AI innovation and adoption," said Catherine Lian, General Manager and Technology Leader, IBM ASEAN.

Through the AI Alliance, Catherine emphasized that IBM hopes to support Indonesia's vision towards a digital future that grows inclusively.

Meta again emphasizes the main focus of this initiative. Berni Moestafa, Head of Public Policy Meta in Indonesia, said that the partnership with IBM in the AI Alliance aims to make AI more accessible, safe, and beneficial for everyone.

"We look forward to engaging with stakeholders in Indonesia to open new opportunities and address challenges at the local level," he added.

Meanwhile, Aitomatic CEO and AI Alliance Board Member, Christopher Nguyen, stated that the mission of the AI Alliance is to advance open science and development, and open AI development.

"We are pleased to be able to support Indonesia in developing and maintaining AI sovereignty through these openness principles," he concluded.
