Britney Spears Sells Her Music Catalog for a Fantastic Value

JAKARTA - Britney Spears is rumored to have officially released ownership rights to her entire music catalog to a copyright management company, Primary Wave.

This big step marks a new chapter in the career of the "Princess of Pop" after breaking free from a controversial 13-year conservatory period.

This major deal includes hit songs that defined the 1990s and 2000s, such as "Baby One More Time", "Oops! I Did It Again", and "Toxic".

Through the transaction signed at the end of December, Primary Wave now has full control over the royalties and use of Spears' works in the future.

Although the official contract value was not published in detail, industry insiders said that the sales figure was very fantastic.

"The value of this deal is estimated to be equivalent to the sale of Justin Bieber's catalog to Hipgnosis Songs Capital in 2023 which reached 200 million US dollars," said the source, quoted by TMZ, Wednesday, February 11.

Spears' move follows a trend of top musicians around the world choosing to cash in on their work to get a large upfront payment.

This kind of acquisition is very beneficial for artists because it provides great liquidity while freeing them from administrative responsibilities in managing complex broadcasting rights and royalties.

Primary Wave itself is not a new player in the hunt for musical masterpieces. Before Spears, they had acquired large shares of the music legacy of The Notorious B.I.G., Whitney Houston, to Bob Marley.

Britney's decision to sell her creative rights has sparked speculation about her retirement plans from the entertainment scene, given that she had expressed reluctance to tour again in the United States.

Although she hasn't released a studio album since Glory (2016), Britney still shows her edge through several collaborations, including "Hold Me Closer" with Elton John.

With the deal, Britney now has greater financial control over her future without having to be burdened by a complicated catalog management.
