Malang City Satpol PP Officers who Smoke in Front of Lactation Room are Sanctioned
MALANG - The Malang City Police Unit, East Java, has sanctioned a number of agency officers who are suspected of smoking in front of the lactation room at Merdeka Square, Malang City.
Head of the Malang City Satpol PP Heru Mulyono said that the related officers were scheduled to undergo a trial for a minor criminal offense (tipiring) on Wednesday (18/2).
"It's a process, it will (trial) on February 18," said Heru as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 11.
He said the short hearing was decided after an examination was conducted by the Civil Servant (PPNS) Investigator regarding violations of regional regulations and Internal Action Officers regarding the code of ethics from related institutions.
"We follow the rules. If the coaching (for all members) is already going on," he said.
Heru also conveyed that his members did not smoke in the lactation room, but in front of it.
"It was in front, not inside the room," he said.
The viral Satpol PP officer of Malang City who smoked in the lactation room at Alun-Alun Merdeka was known from the footage of an amateur video from a visitor.
In the video, several Satpol PP officers are seen sitting on chairs located in front of the lactation room.
The video recorder raised his complaint about the smoking activity carried out by the enforcement agency's officers.
"Again in the square, bring a baby, the intention is to breastfeed, but why is the lactation room used to smoke those fathers," said the video recorder.
Confirmed separately, member of Commission D of the Malang City DPRD, Asmualik, regretted the actions taken by the officer.
According to him, the vicinity of the lactation room should be free from smoking activities because it is not only to create comfort, but to ensure the health of mothers and babies.
"We also hope that there will be a plaque installed in areas that must be free of cigarette smoke," he said.
In addition to the regulatory process, added Asmualik, the Malang City Government can apply social sanctions for anyone who violates the rules in a place, including a smoking ban.
This is an effort to provide a deterrent effect and anticipate a violation.
"This is not only for officers, but for the entire community. For example, he is wearing a vest because he smokes near or in the lactation room, he is given a penalty to sweep the street for two, three, or five days during rush hour so that people will see it," he said.
