Chairman of Commission III of the DPR: Defend Children, Father in Pariaman Cannot Be Sentenced to Death or Life

JAKARTA - Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives has highlighted the case of a father who killed a perpetrator of sexual violence against his son in Pariaman, West Sumatra. The DPR legal commission called for fair treatment of ED who tried to defend his flesh and blood.

"We are very empathetic to Mr. ED. Although the act of killing cannot be justified, but the situation that led Mr. ED to commit murder must also be investigated, namely the situation that was shaken by knowing that his son was a victim of sexual violence for years by F," said Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Habiburokhman to reporters, Wednesday, February 11.

He assessed that ED could not be sentenced to death. Because the new Criminal Code regulates that the imposition of a sentence must take into account the motives and inner attitudes of the perpetrators of criminal acts.

"Even if it is later proven that ED has made a forced defense that goes beyond the limits that is directly caused by a great shock to the soul, then based on Article 43 of the new Criminal Code, ED will not be convicted," he explained.

"At least against Mr. ED, he cannot be sentenced to death or life imprisonment because, based on Article 54 of the Criminal Code, in the imposition of a sentence, the motives and objectives of the crime and the inner attitude of the perpetrator of the crime must be considered," continued the Gerindra legislator.

This case began after F (38) was found lying on the edge of the Korong Koto Muaro ravine, Nagari Gasan Gadang, Batang Gasan District. After the discovery of F's body, the Satreskrim Team of the Pariaman Police then arrested ED as the perpetrator of the murder.

ED is the father of NB (17), who previously reported the alleged act of abuse committed by F. This incident began with NB's family reporting to the Pariaman Police on September 23, 2025.

The next day, F was found to be critical and was rushed to Lubuk Basung Hospital, but his life was not saved. From the investigation, the police found that F had allegedly harassed NB.

In addition to F, NB also admitted to experiencing similar treatment from a man with the initials N. The then-Pariaman Police Chief, AKBP Andreanaldo Ademi, said that F's alleged sexual assault had occurred since 2022.
