WhatsApp Web Beta Version Introduces Voice and Video Calling Features
JAKARTA - Meta finally brings voice and video calling support to WhatsApp Web. Currently, the feature is still in the beta testing phase so not all users can try it.
Until now, the call feature can only be used through the official application, either on a mobile phone or computer. With the presence of voice and video call features on the web, users can be more practical in using WhatsApp.
The launch in this beta version is still focused on one-on-one or inter-user conversations. This means that users can't chat with many users via the web.
To make a call, users only need to open a chat room with the user who wants to be contacted. After that, press the call icon available at the top of the screen to start a conversation.
Like the app version, WhatsApp also prioritizes user security in presenting this feature on the web. All calls made via the web are equipped with end-to-end encryption using the Signal protocol.
In addition to voice and video, users can also utilize the screen sharing feature during the call session. This ability is very helpful for users who want to discuss important topics, but not too formal.
Although group calls are not yet widely available, Meta is perfecting the feature in the background. Later, group calls on the web can accommodate up to 32 participants at once in one call.
