Ahead of Ramadan, the DKI Provincial Government will regulate human carts.
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will increase patrols and discipline against human carts that often appear during Ramadan. Discipline is carried out to maintain order and comfort for residents of the capital city while performing the fasting ritual.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that the enforcement step would involve Satpol PP and law enforcement officers, including the police. However, the approach used still prioritizes the humanitarian side.
"We will definitely patrol. We will involve Satpol PP and of course work together with law enforcement, the police, to keep Jakarta together," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, February 10.
He said that the group, which is often referred to as a cart man, falls into the category of people with social welfare problems (PMKS). The handling, said Pramono, will not be done in a repressive manner.
"Yes, basically we will discipline it, but in a humane way," he said.
Pramono hopes that a more humane and inclusive approach can prevent potential social friction that often occurs before and during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
Apart from the regulation during Ramadan, Pramono also touched on the post-Eid al-Fitr influx. He reminded residents who came to Jakarta to complain about their fate to prepare themselves with adequate ability.
"Once Ramadan and Idulfitri are over, many people will then complain about their fate to Jakarta, We hope that whoever will work in Jakarta, of course they have prepared themselves as best as possible," said Pramono.
However, he emphasized that Jakarta is still open to anyone who wants to come and work. "Jakarta will never close its doors to anyone, Jakarta will always be open to anyone, but we expect people who come to Jakarta to have skills, capabilities, and capacity to work in Jakarta," he continued.
Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Satpol PP, Satriadi Gunawan, explained that the outreach of social welfare service needs (PPKS) is carried out every day by a joint team across agencies in five administrative city areas.
"The PPKS outreach is carried out every day with a joint team, including the Social Service, Transportation Service, Sub-district and Village Elements, as well as the TNI and POLRI in 5 city areas, with a result as of February 9, 2026, amounting to 178 people," said Satriadi.
Satriadi said that hundreds of PPKS were then handed over to the Bina Insan Bangun Daya 1 Kedoya Social Home and the Bina Insan Bangun Daya 2 Cipayung Social Home for further guidance.
