Australian Government Calls Roblox Over Spate of Child Abuse Reports

JAKARTA - The Australian government has met with Roblox after calling the game company. This meeting was held to follow up on reports of harassment on the platform.

Australian Communications Minister Anika Wells expressed her concern in an official letter addressed to Roblox. He emphasized that reports of child exploitation on the popular platform were terrible and intolerable.

A number of Australians are now demanding greater responsibility from Roblox in maintaining the safety of children. The government insists that such a large platform should have much stricter supervision of its user-to-user interactions.

"The reports we've heard about children being exposed to graphic content and predators using the platform to lure young people are horrific," Wells said, quoted by Reuters on Tuesday, February 10. "Australian parents and children expect more from Roblox."

The Australian Cyber Security Commissioner will test the effectiveness of age-based security features previously promised by Roblox. This test is carried out to ensure that the child safety commitment is actually carried out technically.

If it is proven that it has failed to comply with online child protection laws, Roblox is threatened with a substantial fine. The government can impose a fine of up to 49.5 million Australian dollars (Rp588 billion) as a consequence of this security breach.

Previously, Roblox was recommended not to be included in the list of banned social media in Australia. However, with the emergence of this latest case, the relationship between the government and the platform has become less good.

The Australian government is committed to continuing to monitor the development of this case until Roblox shows changes in its latest security system. This monitoring will continue to be carried out to ensure the safety of children is still guaranteed.
