Cirebon Regency Invites TNI to Handle Gebang Beach Garbage Pile
Cirebon Regency Government carried out a clean-up of garbage that had accumulated at Baro Gebang Beach, Tuesday, February 10. In its implementation, it also involved elements of the TNI-Polri.
Cirebon Regent Imron said this cleaning was a joint effort by a joint team to support the Indonesian ASRI Movement launched by the central government.
"Today, the local government together with forkopimda, TNI, Polri to the sub-district level carries out beach cleaning in Gebang," he said in Cirebon, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.
He said that the deployment of the team, the form of cross-sector collaboration in dealing with waste problems that have often accumulated in coastal areas.
He explained that the waste material that accumulates on the beach mostly comes from the activities of the community who throw away garbage not in its place, then carried by the river flow to the sea.
"If there is a flood, the garbage from the river will be carried away and eventually pile up on the beach like we see now," he said.
His party ensures that the beach cleaning activities can be carried out sustainably and not stop at one opportunity.
Imron asked the role of village apparatus and community leaders to help educate residents, so that they are more disciplined in managing waste from the residential environment.
"Cleanliness must start from the village. If the village is clean, then the beach will also be maintained," he said.
He expressed his appreciation to Kodim 0620/Cirebon Regency who pioneered the deployment of personnel and cross-agency coordination in the activity.
The commander of Kodim 0620/Cirebon Regency, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Nizar Bachtiar, said that this beach cleaning activity involved around 300 personnel from various elements.
He said that the beach area that was cleaned in the initial phase reached about two kilometers, with a large volume of garbage and dominated by plastic waste.
His party assessed that the volume of waste made the cleaning activity could not be completed in one day, so it would be carried out gradually.
"We will carry out this activity on an ongoing basis until all waste materials in this coastal area can be cleaned up," he said.
