Investigation of Alleged Illegal Mining of PT Position, Malut Police Immediately Check the Reporter
TERNATE - The North Maluku Regional Police (Polda) has officially started an investigation related to the report of alleged Unauthorized Mining (PETI) which dragged the name of PT Position in East Halmahera Regency. This report was previously submitted by the North Maluku Mining Advocacy Consortium (KATAM).
PT Position itself is said by the reporter to be a subsidiary of Harum Energy. Currently, the police are preparing a schedule to call key witnesses.
Confirmation of the Malut Police Chief
The North Maluku Police Chief, Inspector General of Police. Waris Agono, when confirmed by the media crew directed that the details of the case development be asked directly to the investigation technician.
"Ask directly to the Sub-Directorate," said the Police Chief briefly via electronic message, Monday (9/2/2026).
In line with the Police Chief, the Head of the Tipidter Sub-Directorate of the Malut Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, Agus Supriyadi, explained that this case is still in the early stages. The main focus of the investigators at this time is to delve into the information from the reporting party. "The reporting party's plan is still being examined," said Agus. He also added that further coordination could be carried out through the investigators because he was undergoing education in Jakarta.
Entering the Investigation Stage
Ps Kasubdit IV Tipidter Ditreskrimsus Polda Malut, Rona, confirmed that the KATAM report had been processed and entered the investigation table. His party is completing the administration for the summoning of the parties concerned. "The case is currently under investigation. We will clarify to the reporting party. The schedule is being prepared and we will send it immediately," said Rona.
On the other hand, KATAM's Legal Representative, Julfandi Gani, appreciated the quick steps of the North Maluku Police in responding to the report they submitted on February 2, 2026.
"We welcome the professional and responsive attitude of the North Maluku Regional Police, especially the Police Chief, who showed a serious commitment in handling alleged violations of law in the mining sector," said Julfandi in a written statement.
He emphasized that he would continue to monitor this case until it was completed to ensure legal certainty and transparency. "We hope that the legal process will run according to the provisions, transparent, and fair. We will continue to monitor the development of the handling of this case," he concluded.
