2 Districts in South West Papua Have Not Implemented MBG Program

JAKARTA - West Papua Deputy Governor (PBD) Ahmad Nausrau said that until now there are two out of five regencies/cities in his region have not carried out the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program.

"For South West Papua itself, there are still two regencies that have not implemented the MBG program, namely Maybrat and Tambrauw. The provincial government continues to coordinate so that this program can immediately reach all areas," said Ahmad Nausrau in Sorong, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.

He explained that the MBG program is one of the national strategic programs aimed at improving the nutritional quality of the community, especially school-age children, pregnant women, and vulnerable groups, as an effort to reduce stunting rates and improve human capital quality.

According to him, most districts and cities in South West Papua have begun to implement the program gradually, both through schools and community service facilities, with the support of local governments and related agencies.

However, Ahmad Nausrau admitted that there were still a number of challenges in the implementation of the MBG program in certain areas, especially those with difficult geographical conditions, limited infrastructure, and logistical distribution constraints.

"South West Papua has a characteristic of a region that is quite challenging, so it requires cross-sectoral coordination, including with the district government, TNI-Polri, and other related parties so that this program can run evenly," he said.

He emphasized that the Government of the South West Papua Province was committed to accelerating the implementation of the MBG program in all districts, including Maybrat and Tambrauw, so that there would be no service gaps between regions.

"The government continues to strive to find the best solution, both in terms of budget, distribution, and regional readiness, so that the benefits of the MBG program can be felt by all people in South West Papua without exception," he said.

Previously, in 2025, the West Papua Provincial Government had mapped the potential for the spread of Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) kitchens throughout the district/city areas.

At least 38 SPPG kitchens are ready to implement the strategic program as an important part to support the quality of health and education of students.

Based on data from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), the South West Papua region has 110 sub-districts that fall into the SPPG point category in remote areas, with details of Sorong Regency 26 sub-districts, South Sorong Regency 15 sub-districts, Raja Ampat Regency 22 sub-districts, Tambrauw Regency 24 sub-districts, and Maybrat Regency 23 sub-districts.

"Of the total points, there are currently 38 remote SPPG locations that have prepared locations for the implementation of the MBG kitchen," said the Secretary of the West Papua MBG Task Force, George Yarangga.

The 38 SPPGs are spread across five regencies in South West Papua, consisting of four points in Maybrat Regency, two SPPG points in Sorong Regency.

Furthermore, four SPPG points in South Sorong Regency, five SPPG points in Tambrauw Regency and Raja Ampat Regency have 23 SPPG points.

BGN noted that as of September 2025, 13 agglomeration SPPGs had been built throughout South West Papua, namely nine SPPGs in Sorong City, two SPPGs in Sorong Regency, one SPPG in Raja Ampat Regency and one SPPG in South Sorong Regency.

Then, there are four additional SPPGs which are in the preparation stage, namely two in Sorong City and two in Sorong Regency.
