Student Dies Due to a Potholed Road, DKI DPRD: Don't Wait for a New Accident to Fix it
Jakarta - Member of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Ade Suherman highlighted a single accident that killed a student on Jalan Matraman Raya, East Jakarta, due to the condition of the road being potholed.
Ade asked the DKI Provincial Government not to wait for reports from residents or the fall of new victims to move to make improvements. According to him, monitoring the condition of the road should be actively carried out by all related regional devices, especially in the midst of high rainfall intensity and potentially damaging road infrastructure.
"Don't need to wait for an accident, don't wait for a report. Everything must be monitored. If there is a potential for what is called to make the accident happen, immediately repaired as soon as possible like that," Ade told reporters, Tuesday, February 10.
Ade encouraged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to move quickly to respond to road damage, especially the sections that were damaged after being hit by rain. According to him, the safety of residents must be the top priority in managing urban infrastructure.
"We certainly encourage the government to be quick in responding to the condition of roads that are flooded with rain. And it seems that the weather is still going on and the government must ensure that residents do not have accidents and so on," he said.
He hopes that the accident in Matraman Raya will be a serious warning for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to strengthen the supervision and routine maintenance of roads, especially during the rainy season which is prone to sudden damage.
Ade also emphasized the importance of cross-departmental coordination in handling the problem of potholes. He said that the role of the Transportation Agency could not run on its own without the support of the Road Construction Agency and other local devices responsible for the physical condition of the road.
"Dishub must work together with other ministries, yes Bina Marga, which is responsible for all kinds of road holes. It must be a collaboration. All parties must cooperate so that the citizens are not in trouble," said Ade.
Previously, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung asked the public, especially motor vehicle users to avoid potholes and damaged roads in Jakarta which often occur during the rainy season.
This is related to the accident of a student whose vehicle hit a pothole until he died on Jalan Matraman Raya, East Jakarta, this morning.
Pramono also ordered his students to socialize the call for caution to the public more massively.
"We ask the public to be reminded many times, the Jakarta Information and Communication Technology Office, there are indeed several roads that are potholed and that please be careful," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Monday, February 9.
Pramono ensured that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government would bear all the costs of the victims, from treatment at the hospital to the funeral. The victim was known as Aldi Surya Putra, a student at SMK Negeri 34 Jakarta, who was involved in an accident while driving to school.
Pramono explained that the accident occurred due to slippery and potholed road conditions, as well as vehicles traveling at high speeds.
"We have monitored the results of CCTV. The cause of the accident was the slippery and potholed road then passed at high speed. So this is a single accident," explained Pramono.
After the incident, the victim was rushed to the Police Hospital with the assistance of the Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Service and the school. However, the victim's life was not saved.
