Janice Tjen Meets Iga Swiatek in the Second Round of the 2026 Qatar Open

JAKARTA - Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen received a tough test against world number two Iga Swiatek from Poland in the second round of the 2026 Qatar Open WTA 1000 tournament.

Janice passed the first round of the tournament after getting a landslide victory of two sets 6-0 and 6-1 over Brazilian player Beatriz Haddad Maia, in Doha, Qatar, on Monday, February 9, 2026, local time.

The tennis player who received the wild card facility was very dominant in the two sets. He managed to convert five of the 10 break points he got to score a landslide.

After securing the first set easily, Janice started the next set well. He immediately took a 3-0 lead after successfully taking advantage of one break point in the second game.

Haddad Maia then bounced back and stole the fourth game convincingly, but in the next game Janice won again. He then took advantage of a break point in the sixth game and closed the match while holding the service.

Initially, Janice was scheduled to meet Sorena Cirstea in the first round. However, the 35-year-old decided to withdraw after winning the title at her own home, the WTA 250 Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, at the weekend.

Haddad Maia then filled the main draw slot replacing Cirstea as a lucky loser after losing in the qualifying round.

Iga Swiatek, who is the number one seed in this tournament, got a blank draw in the first round. On paper, the tennis player who has ever ranked number one in the world is a tough test for Janice.

Swiatek, who is currently 24 years old, has collected six Grand Slam titles and 11 WTA 1000 tournament titles from 13 opportunities to play in the final.

This is a good opportunity for Janice to test his ability against top players. So far he hasn't been able to say much when he clashes with big names in the arena.
