Kremlin Says No Response Yet on Idea of Sending Russian Assets to Peace Council
JAKARTA - Moscow has not received a response to President Vladimir Putin's proposal to send some of Russia's frozen assets in the United States to the Peace Council, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"The proposal was indeed submitted by the Russian President, but we have not received a response," Peskov said, quoted by TASS (9/2).
Furthermore, Peskov explained, the possibility of Russia's participation in the Peace Council itself is still being explored.
"The topic of the Peace Council itself, in accordance with the instructions of the Russian President, is still being worked on by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with our allies and partners," Peskov said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier said Moscow was ready to donate 1 billion US dollars from its assets frozen in the United States to the Peace Council formed as part of the peace settlement in the Gaza Strip, adding that Russia was ready to do so even before the issue of participation in the Peace Council and its work was resolved.
