JAKARTA - The Swasembada Operations Command secured two firearms, one of which was a long-barreled weapon along with 10 rounds of ammunition, in Mosso, Muara Tami District, Jayapura City, the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea border.
The commander of the Koops Swasembada, Major General TNI Novi Rubadi, said that the firearms and ammunition were secured after Koops Swasembada personnel received information regarding the presence of weapons and ammunition.
Initially, there were residents who reported the presence of two Lee Enfield Standard firearms and a Barreta pistol along with six rounds of 7.62 mm caliber ammunition and four rounds of 9 mm caliber ammunition.
"From this information, an approach was made so that the MLA handed over the two guns and their ammunition," said Major General TNI Novi Rubadi in his statement in Jayapura, Monday, quoted by Antara.
He said the firearms and ammunition were secured on Friday (6/2) in Mosso Village which is a village on the RI-PNG border.
When asked whether the firearms and ammunition would be smuggled to the armed group, Novi Rubadi said he could not confirm because it was still being investigated.
"Members are still investigating the origin of the firearms and ammunition and whether they are to be smuggled to armed groups or not," he said.
He added that the success was the result of a humanistic approach that continues to be built together with the community because the people's trust is the main key to maintaining security stability in Papua.
"Moreover, the TNI is present to protect and care for the community so that a safe, peaceful, and prosperous Papua can be realized," he said.
