Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max to Use Dual 200MP Camera, New Flagship Standard?

JAKARTA - Xiaomi seems to be preparing to shake up the definition of the flagship camera. The latest leaks indicate that the Xiaomi 18 series, especially the Pro variant, will bring a major improvement in the photography sector, by presenting a 200 megapixel dual camera configuration. If true, this will be a significant strategy change, considering that so far the 200MP sensor has only been the exclusive right of the Ultra variant.

The information comes from the famous tipster Digital Chat Station, which revealed the existence of a Xiaomi flagship phone with a 6.3-inch screen with two 200-megapixel cameras. Although it did not mention the name of the device explicitly, the pattern of Xiaomi products made many parties believe that the device was the Xiaomi 18 Pro.

Referring to the previous generation, Xiaomi tends to maintain a compact design for the standard and Pro models. Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro, for example, come with a relatively small size but are distinguished by camera capabilities. With a similar approach, Xiaomi 18 is expected to remain a compact flagship, while the camera technology leap will be focused on Xiaomi 18 Pro.

If this assumption is correct, the Xiaomi 18 Pro has the potential to be Xiaomi's first Pro phone to carry a 200-megapixel dual camera, not just one high-resolution main sensor. The configuration will likely be combined with a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera to complement photographic flexibility.

Xiaomi is also expected to continue the "twin specification" strategy between the Pro and Pro Max variants. As with the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max version is said to carry a similar camera system, including two 200MP sensors, but with the difference being a larger screen size, higher battery capacity, and possibly a difference in camera sensors behind the same resolution.

Both Pro models are also rumored to retain a secondary screen on the back, which is now more functional than the original generation.

Meanwhile, Digital Chat Station previously also claimed that the standard version of the Xiaomi 18 will finally adopt a telephoto periscope camera. If realized, this will be an important improvement, replacing the conventional telephoto with more capable optical zoom capabilities, without having to go up to the Pro variant.

In terms of performance, the entire Xiaomi 18 line, including the Xiaomi 18, 18 Pro, and 18 Pro Max, is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. The Ultra variant is rumored to use the higher version, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, to assert its position as the top of the series.

The launch of the Xiaomi 18 series is predicted to take place in China around September 2026, with the Ultra model following later. For the global market, the situation is still gray. Given that the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are rumored to be exclusive to China, there is no certainty whether the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max will be released globally.

If this leak is accurate, Xiaomi seems to want to level the "camera luxury" to the Pro segment. In the 2026 smartphone world, 200 megapixels is no longer just a big number, but a weapon of differentiation. And Xiaomi, once again, seems to want to be the loudest in the room.
