Chairman of the Constitutional Court Promises No More Room for Corruption in the Judiciary

JAKARTA - Chief Justice Sunarto said there was no more room for tolerance against all forms of judicial corruption, following the arrest of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) against judges and the Depok District Court apparatus, West Java.

"There is no longer any room for tolerance and compassion for all forms of judicial corruption and violations of the integrity of judges," said Supreme Court (MA) Spokesperson Yanto delivering the message of the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court Media Center, Jakarta, Monday, February 9.

Sunarto emphasized that sanctions would be given to judges and court officials who were involved in transactional practices.

According to him, the price that the state and the Constitutional Court institutions must pay is too expensive if the judges who play with dirty transactions are still protected.

"The Chief Justice emphasized to all judges and court officials who are still involved in transactional services for the court, whatever the value, there are only two choices, namely quitting or being imprisoned," said Yanto.

He advised that the KPK's hand-to-hand operation (OTT) in the alleged corruption case in handling land dispute cases that dragged the chairman, vice chairman, to the PN Depok's seizure officer could be used as a spirit to maintain commitment, not weaken the spirit of integrity.

According to him, this incident should be a reminder of the toughest intervention not coming from outside, but from within who is still wavering against the temptation of transactional service for justice seekers.

"The Chairman of the Constitutional Court also encourages the public to always participate in supervising judges and court officials," Yanto added.

In addition, the Chief Justice reminded that there was no longer any reason for judges to not be prosperous, considering that President Prabowo Subianto had announced a raise in judges' allowances some time ago.

According to Sunarto, the state has paid attention to the welfare of judges more than enough. For this reason, the integrity of judges must always be maintained.

"The act of judicial corruption by some judges is a form of ingratitude and a form of greed that should not exist in a judge and the court apparatus in the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia," said the Chief Justice.

As a follow-up step, the Constitutional Court will temporarily dismiss those suspected of being involved, namely the Chairman of the Depok PN I Wayan Eka Mariarta (EKA), Deputy Chairman of the Depok PN Bambang Setyawan (BBG), and the Depok PN Sita Officer Yohansyah Maruanaya (YOH).

On Friday (6/2), the KPK announced the appointment of suspects against the Chairman of the Depok PN EKA and the Deputy Chairman of the Depok PN BBG in the alleged corruption case related to the receipt or promise in handling land disputes in the Depok PN environment, West Java.

The KPK named the two judges as suspects after arresting seven people in the Depok City area in a series of hand-in-hand operations on February 5, 2026.

In addition to the chairman and vice chairman, the KPK also named the PN Depok YOH investigator as a suspect in the case, along with two other suspects from the private sector, namely the President Director of PT Karabha Digdaya Trisnadi Yulrisman (TRI) and the Head of Corporate Legal PT Karabha Digdaya Berliana Tri Kusuma (BER).

The suspects are suspected of violating Article 605 letter a and/or Article 606 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning the Adjustment of the Pidanajuncto Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001.
