DI Panjaitan Flood Subscription, Water Channel Jacking Project Targeted to be Completed This Year

JAKARTA - The East Jakarta City Government ensures that the water channel jacking project on Jalan DI Panjaitan is still ongoing and is targeted to be completed in 2026.

"Jalan DI Panjaitan is now in the jacking stage. Hopefully it will be completed soon. We target this year, 2026, the work will be completed," said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin at the East Jakarta Regional Training Center (PPKD) on Monday, February 9, reported by ANTARA.

He said the project was one of the government's efforts to overcome the problems of flooding and congestion that often occur in the area.

The method of jacking is to install pipes by drilling the ground below the road surface, then pushing the pipes using hydraulic pressure.

According to Munjirin, the flooding and flooding that often appear on Jalan DI Panjaitan, even when it rains with light intensity, are caused by the ongoing process of developing drainage infrastructure.

Currently, the work is being carried out by the East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-Department (Sudin), and is a continuation of the previous year's project.

"The implementation is in the East Jakarta Sub-Directorate of Natural Resources and Environment. This is a multi-year work, starting last year and continuing until this year," explained Munjirin.

He said that during the construction process, the drainage system in the area was not functioning optimally.

As a result, rainwater often pools on the road and disrupts community activities and traffic flow.

Munjirin also confirmed that the unfinished project was one of the main causes of flooding and congestion on Jalan DI Panjaitan.

"The jacking is not yet complete. Hopefully, when it is completed, it will be able to overcome the congestion and puddles on Jalan DI Panjaitan," said Munjirin.

Furthermore, it was emphasized that the East Jakarta City Government continues to monitor the progress of the project so that it can run according to target.

He also hopes that after the project is completed, the capacity of the water channel in the area will increase so that it can accommodate the maximum amount of rainwater.

In addition to reducing the risk of flooding, the completion of the project is also expected to facilitate vehicle traffic, which has often been hampered by flooding and narrowing of the road during the construction process.

The East Jakarta City Government is committed to completing the construction of the infrastructure as part of efforts to improve the quality of the environment and the comfort of the community in East Jakarta.

With the completion of the jacking project, Jalan DI Panjaitan is expected to no longer be a vulnerable point for flooding and congestion so that the mobility of residents can return to normal.

Previously, heavy rain that hit the East Jakarta area for about 15 minutes caused Jalan DI Panjaitan, Jatinegara, to be flooded with a height of approximately 50 centimeters (cm) on February 4, 2026.

This condition is quite disturbing the activities of road users, especially two-wheeled drivers and small vehicles.

Due to the flood, police officers were forced to manually arrange traffic.

In addition, to reduce congestion, the police force imposed a diversion for motorists passing from the direction of Cawang and UKI.

Drivers are directed to turn left onto Jalan Otista Raya as an alternative route.
