Encourage the Revitalization of the Surakarta Palace, the Minister of Culture Says Museum is a Target
JAKARTA - Fadli Zon emphasized that the Surakarta Palace should not stop being a symbol. The government, he said, is preparing further steps to revitalize the palace area - from the stage to the museum - so that preservation has a real and measurable impact, including on the economy of the surrounding residents.
Fadli Zon made the statement while attending the "Tribute to National Heritage of Keraton Surakarta" event at Tribrata Darmawangsa, Sunday, February 8. The event was held in conjunction with the Kusumo Buwono Foundation and the Colorful Indonesia Foundation.
He called the Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace a "major milestone" in the cultural ecosystem. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, he said, has helped revitalize the Songgobuwono Stage in 2025.
"Our next task is to revitalize the museum of Kasunanan Surakarta, which has also begun gradually," he said.
However, he also gave a clear line that this work cannot be handled by the center alone. Revitalization must be cross-regional, involving the community, private sector, to caring individuals. The ultimate goal is not only to preserve the heritage, but to make the royal area a destination based on local wisdom that can drive a sustainable cultural economy.
Chairman of the Kusumo Buwono Foundation, Krisnina Maharani Akbar Tandjung, stated that this event was to introduce the Surakarta Palace as a national cultural heritage and invite the public to get to know it through historical-based cultural works.
The event featured, among others, Tari Bedhaya Sekar Tanjung by Sekar Tanjung Dance Company, RRI Jakarta karawitan, panembromo by Kebaya Foundation and Al-Izhar School, and traditional fashion show by the Kebayaku Association. A number of guests attended, including Siti Hediati Soeharto and Hetifah Sjaifudian, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, Vinsensius Jemadu. Joining the Minister of Culture, among others, Restu Gunawan, B.R.A Putri Woelan Sari Dewi, and I Made Dharma Suteja.
