Beware of Extreme Weather: Heavy Rain is Expected to Flood Banten, West Java, NTB, NTT, South Kalimantan, and South Papua

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts heavy to very heavy rain will hit a number of regions in Indonesia on Monday, February 9.

BMKG Praktirawan Selly Brilian said that heavy to very heavy rain was predicted to occur in the Banten, West Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, South Kalimantan, and South Papua regions.

"The readiness for potential heavy to very heavy rain in the Banten, West Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, South Kalimantan, and South Papua regions needs to be improved," said Selly, quoted by Antara.

In addition, he also conveyed that moderate to heavy rain could potentially occur in several other areas.

For the western part of Indonesia, BMKG predicts that rain accompanied by lightning is potentially occurring in Padang, West Sumatra; Bandar Lampung, Lampung; Yogyakarta; Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan; and Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, moderate intensity rain is predicted to hit Serang, Banten; Bandung, West Java; and Semarang, Central Java. In addition, light rain is potentially occurring in Medan, North Sumatra; Pekanbaru, Riau; Bengkulu; Jambi; Palembang, South Sumatra; Jakarta; Samarinda, East Kalimantan; Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan; and Surabaya, East Java.

BMKG also predicts that thick cloudy conditions will occur in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands; Pangkal Pinang, Bangka Belitung Islands; and Pontianak, West Kalimantan. Meanwhile, the Banda Aceh area, Aceh, is predicted to experience foggy air conditions.

Furthermore, for the eastern part of Indonesia, moderate intensity rain is potentially occurring in Nabire, Central Papua, and Merauke, South Papua. Light rain is expected to occur in Denpasar, Bali; Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara; Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara; all areas of Sulawesi; Ambon, Maluku; Ternate, North Maluku; Sorong, South West Papua; Manokwari, West Papua; Jayapura, Papua; and Jayawijaya, Papua Mountains.
