"Today, we are together following the volunteer work of gotong royong which was launched simultaneously throughout Jakarta, which we call Jaga Jakarta Bersih. One of the initiators of this activity is PMI, especially the PMI Center which is led by Mr. Jusuf Kalla," said Pramono as quoted from the official website of the DKI Provincial Government, Sunday, February 8.
"Currently, simultaneous cleaning activities are being carried out in Jakarta. The total number of people involved in the overall reached 171,134 people throughout the region," he continued.
In addition, Pramono said PMI also provided support in the form of assistance for hygiene equipment used throughout the DKI Jakarta area.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the PMI, Jusuf Kalla, emphasized the importance of the participation of all Jakarta residents in maintaining environmental cleanliness, especially water channels around their respective residences.
According to him, the impact of the flood was felt most by the small community so that prevention efforts must start from individual awareness.
"Floods occur because more water enters than exits. The exit is in the river, manholes, and sewers, and it must be cleaned," said Jusuf Kalla.
He encouraged every citizen to be responsible for regularly cleaning the gutters in front of his house. "One hour a week is enough. If all citizens move, Jakarta will be far from flooding," he said.
Apart from the community, Jusuf Kalla also invited large companies to contribute, considering that the impact of flooding is not only felt by residents, but also by businesses.
In a separate location, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno also attended the Clean Jakarta Watch activity in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. Rano explained, this activity is a direct order from Governor Pramono as a step to anticipate the rainy season.

He explained that the cleaning was carried out by draining and cleaning the water channels at priority points to increase the capacity and prevent clogging due to garbage.
