Four Former miHoYo Employees Sentenced to Prison for Bribery and Fraud Cases
JAKARTA - A former employee of the developer of the game miHoYo, the Chinese version of HoYoverse, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of involvement in a bribery scandal. In this legal case, there are four former employees who are entangled.
In a post on Weixin, miHoYo explained that the four former employees were initials Kang, two initials Xu, and Cao. All four were found to have abused their positions by accepting bribes from various external partners of the company.
The panel of judges sentenced Kang, who worked in the supply group, to one year and four months in prison. Meanwhile, two of his former teammates with the surname Xu each received a sentence of one year and three months in prison.
Cao, a former member of the operations team, was involved in another case. He was found guilty of seeking illegal profits from certain suppliers. For his actions, Cao was found guilty and sentenced to six months in prison.
In addition to prison sentences, miHoYo also fired a member of the Genshin Impact marketing team named Zhang due to a conflict of interest. Zhang is now on the industry blacklist and his case has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
As an additional consequence, miHoYo has severed working relationships with 24 supplier companies involved in this dirty practice. All vendors are now banned from permanently cooperating with the miHoYo group in the future.
miHoYo also includes the names of perpetrators into anti-corporate fraud alliances to prevent them from working in similar industries. To prevent similar cases in the future, miHoYo has built a reporting system to detect any type of cheating.
