Construction of Trans Papua Road 50.14 Km is Being Completed, Progress is Running According to Target
JAKARTA - The consortium of PT Hutama Karya (Persero) through its implementing entity PT Hutama Mambelim Trans Papua (HMTP) ensures that the physical work on the construction of the Trans Papua Road section Jayapura-Wamena is being rushed.
Head of the National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN) Papua, Denny Firmansyah, explained that his party together with the Hutama Karya management revealed that it had carried out a direct review at the project site to evaluate the work method, the readiness of the tools, to technical risks.
The review covers the entire corridor of excavation work, starting from the starting point of STA 0+000 to the end point at STA 50+140.
"This is an agenda to ensure that the project work is effective, considering that this road is an important access for people who pass from Jayapura to Wamena and vice versa."
"Therefore, it is important for us to always maintain the safety and comfort of road users during the project period," said Denny Firmansyah in an official statement, Saturday, February 7, 2026.
In his explanation, the construction of the 50.14 kilometer road is projected to become a logistics artery connecting three provinces and eight regencies in Papua.
The existence of access is considered crucial to reduce the cost of distributing goods and strengthening connectivity between regions that have been geographically isolated.
Meanwhile, Director of Operations I of Hutama Karya, Agung Fajarwanto, emphasized that every stage of construction must meet quality and safety standards.
His party has taken a number of acceleration steps, ranging from the implementation of a two-shift work system, the addition of heavy equipment, to the strengthening of the internal foundation team (bore pile).
"We ensure that every stage of construction meets safety and quality standards. Our presence on the ground is a manifestation of the commitment that this project is carried out with full responsibility," he said.
To date, the project has also reportedly absorbed around 2,000 local workers for various civil and field operational job positions.
HMTP targets the completion of the project to remain in line with the timeline to provide sustainable economic benefits for the people around the Trans Papua corridor.
Previously, the Minister of Public Works (PU), Dody Hanggodo, targeted the completion of the Trans Papua Jayapura-Wamena Road in the second semester of 2026.
According to Dody, the project has now entered the next phase after the signing of the cooperation scheme between the Government and business entities (KPBU) or public-private partnership (PPP).
He said the tender process had been completed and construction had begun in several segments. However, he admitted that the completion of the project faced a number of challenges in the field.
"Land problems are still not 100 percent clear, sometimes there are still security disturbances here and there."
"This makes it very difficult for the construction of the Trans Papua Road Jayapura-Wamena," he said, quoting Antara.
