Liam Rosenior Gets Mocked on Social Media, Chelsea Players Join in Laugh
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has shrugged off online abuse and admitted his own squad were involved in the joke.
The former Strasbourg coach was the target of ridicule on social media after failing to control a high ball that fell towards him on the sidelines during a 0-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, early morning WIB.
The moment happened at the end of the second half when Chelsea were chasing the aggregate goal. It also triggered jeers from home supporters inside the stadium, which was then reinforced on social media.
In fact, his students also joined in the joke around their training ground.
"Some of the players have played the video back for me. We laugh about it. Estevao said he couldn't believe I had ever been a professional footballer."
"It's a great job. I love this job. I'm serious, I'm serious in many ways. I do demand a lot, but life is too short."
"You have to enjoy life, you have to be able to laugh at yourself. Right now a lot of people in this country are laughing at me," Rosenior said, as reported by ESPN.
Apart from that, Chelsea suffered a setback on the last day of the transfer window when they lost to Liverpool in the race to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet.
However, there is better news for Rosenior with the return of his captain at Strasbourg, Mamadou Sarr, from a loan. He is a versatile defender who in January 2026 helped Senegal win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
"Everyone knows what I think about Mamadou. I think he has the potential to be a world-class centre-back."
"I thank the sporting director and the club owners for their support of what I think is right for us and for his career."
"I saw the development in Mamadou. I saw an improvement in his performance in the 2026 African Cup of Nations final."
"I see an improvement in his physicality and tactical understanding. In addition, it is an area on the field that I think we can strengthen."
"Those are all things I'm considering. He'll get his chance, but he knows he has to fight for it because we have so many incredible centre-backs in our group," Rosenior said.
