LRT Manggarai is encouraged to reduce carbon emissions and Jakpro
JAKARTA - PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda) or Jakpro encourages the construction of the Manggarai LRT Station Jakarta Phase 1B Velodrome-Manggarai route to be one of the efforts to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution in urban areas.
"The development of the Jakarta LRT is not only about mobility, but also part of our responsibility in maintaining the environment. Electric-based transportation is a solution to reduce emissions and pollution in Jakarta," said Jakpro's Director of Engineering and Development Dian Takdir, quoted by Antara.
He said the development of the Manggarai area as an intermodal integration center was a strategic step in encouraging people to switch from private vehicles to more environmentally friendly electric mass transportation.
"So, it is not only aimed at improving transportation connectivity, but also becoming part of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution," said Dian.
In addition, the Manggarai LRT Station in Jakarta is designed to be integrated with the Commuter Line, Airport Train, and Transjakarta.
This integration makes it easier for people to travel without having to rely on private vehicles, so that it can reduce congestion as well as air pollution.
Dian assessed that the increasing use of public transportation has a direct impact on the quality of life in Jakarta.
With a connected and comfortable transportation system, the public is expected to be more interested in using mass modes for daily activities.
"The operation of the electric-based Jakarta LRT is one of the company's commitments in supporting sustainable development," said Dian.
Cumulatively, the operation of the Jakarta LRT Phase 1A and 1B is projected to reduce emissions by up to 2,927,250 tons of CO₂e.
This decline was obtained from the reduction in the use of private motor vehicles, which have been one of the main contributors to air pollution in Jakarta.
In addition to having an impact on the environment, the development of the Manggarai area is also directed based on Transit Oriented Development (TOD) that is friendly to pedestrians and cyclists.
This concept encourages a healthier and sustainable pattern of community mobility.
Furthermore, Dian said that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that the presence of the Manggarai LRT Jakarta Station can be an example of the development of modern transportation in line with Jakarta's target as a green and competitive global city.
"Through intermodal integration and the use of clean energy, Manggarai is projected to become a pilot area for environmentally friendly transportation that is capable of improving the quality of life of residents while maintaining environmental sustainability," said Dian.
LRT Jakarta Phase 1B completes Phase 1 of the Velodrome-Pegangsaan Dua route, so that the total operating line, which was originally 5.8 km, becomes 12.2 km and can carry about 80 thousand passengers gradually.
Jakpro as the owner of the Jakarta LRT project appointed Waskita Karya as the main contractor for the construction of the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B Velodrome-Manggarai through the tender process.
Regarding costs, the construction of the Phase 1B route cost Rp5.36 trillion, while Phase 2A with funding of Rp8.66 trillion, then Phase 2B and 3B each Rp3.65 trillion and Rp4.6 trillion, sourced from the DKI Jakarta Regional Development and Expenditure Budget (APBD).
