Dino: Peace Council is not the Final Solution, Indonesia Must Beware of US-Israel

JAKARTA - Founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) Dino Patti Djalal emphasized that the Board of Peace (BoP) of US President Donald Trump cannot be the final solution to realize Palestinian independence.

The reason is that Dino sees Donald Trump's unpredictable attitude and the Zionist regime of Israel, which rejects Palestinian independence, can be a stumbling block to the Peace Council's efforts to achieve the organization's goals in accordance with the mandate of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Therefore, through his statement on the social media X which was monitored on Saturday, Dino urged Indonesia, as the representative of the majority Muslim country in the Peace Council, to play a decisive role in the organization.

"Because the Republic of Indonesia has already entered the BoP, be aware of Trump's behavior and Israel's agenda to silence the Palestinians, and always keep the option of leaving the BoP," said Dino, quoting Antara.

According to the former deputy minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the Peace Council and Donald Trump's 20-Point Plan are the only agreements that have been successfully reached at the international level to achieve a ceasefire and recovery in the Gaza Strip, so that the participation of the Republic of Indonesia in the body can be understood.

He views President Prabowo Subianto's decision to bring Indonesia to the Peace Council as a "realistic" approach, considering that Indonesia must strategically line up with 7 other Muslim countries that also joined the Peace Council, although there is no guarantee that the initiative will be successful.

Moreover, the organization has received support from the UN Security Council and Arab countries, and there is no alternative proposed by other parties, for example from the European Union, Russia, China, or the Arab countries themselves, he said.

"This does not mean that BoP is the best solution, nor a permanent solution - it just means that at the moment it is the only existing ceasefire effort," he said, while expressing his doubts about the Trump-led organization.

However, Dino admitted that the second paragraph of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 - which is the legal basis of the Peace Council - gives "as much opportunity as it brings a breath of wind for Palestine to be independent" with the certainty of guaranteeing the right of the Palestinian people to determine their own destiny.

He also reminded the Indonesian government to always ignite the Palestinian struggle, both in the Peace Council and in other vehicles, in order to defeat Israel's move to oppose the formation of a free Palestinian state.

Previously on January 23, Dino also expressed his concern that the Gaza Peace Council was only a "facade" for Trump to build a "real estate project" in the Gaza Strip. He urged Indonesia to confirm its position so that the interests of the Palestinians would continue to be protected in that body.
