SAR Operation for Cisarua Landslide Victims Closed

BANDUNG - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has confirmed that the search for victims of a landslide in Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, will continue to be limited even though the local government has stopped the emergency disaster response status on Friday (6/2).

Head of the Bandung SAR Office Ade Dian said the termination of the emergency response status marked the end of the full-scale SAR Operation, but Basarnas and the joint SAR elements remained ready to conduct limited follow-up searches if new information was found in the field.

"The SAR operation in the official emergency response status ends today according to the decision of the Regent of West Bandung, but Basarnas will still open the space for further handling if there is an indication or credible information regarding the whereabouts of the victim," he said as reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 6.

He explained that during the 14 days of the SAR Operation, the joint SAR team evacuated 94 bags of bodies from the total initial estimate of 80 victims.

Based on the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) release of the National Police as of February 6, 2026 at 14.00 WIB, out of 77 bags of bodies have been examined and as many as 74 victims have been identified, while the rest are still in the process of further identification.

He said the search operation involved more than 3,100 joint personnel from Basarnas, TNI, Polri, volunteers, and other related agencies with the support of heavy equipment, ambulances, air monitoring flying robots (drones), and K9 tracking dogs.

However, the area of the landslide is about 15.7 hectares, the condition of the soil is still unstable, and weather factors are the main obstacles in the search process and are at risk to the safety of personnel.

"Based on field technical evaluations and safety aspects, entering the transition period from emergency response to recovery, the operating pattern is adjusted to still open a limited handling space if new credible information or identification is found," he said.

Entering the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase led by the local government, Basarnas will continue to coordinate with the Incident Commander (IC) and related agencies for further handling if the victim is found again.

"If a victim is found, we will immediately follow up and hand over the handling to the DVI team for the identification process, so that the victim's family can get certainty," he said.
