Carrick Says Manchester United's End-of-Season Target Is Not Affected by His Future Uncertainty
JAKARTA - Michael Carrick insists he is not concerned that uncertainty surrounding his Old Trafford situation could derail Manchester United's end-of-season targets.
Manchester United have put themselves in contention to qualify for the Champions League after winning Carrick's first three games as manager.
Calls for the former England midfielder to be given a permanent job have increased following victories over Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham.
However, Carrick said the question of who will be in charge next season will not overshadow the rest of the season.
"The players have played very well and with full focus. We are all aware of the bigger picture and what might happen."
"As a player, you focus on what's in front of you, try to achieve what you can. I'm not worried. The players have played better than you imagined."
"We are focused on getting better, improving ourselves, and achieving our goals. Small steps, but this is a big end of season," Carrick said in a press conference on Thursday, February 5, 2026, local time.
Manchester United will face Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday, February 7, 2026, before traveling to West Ham on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, early morning WIB.
After being knocked out of the FA Cup, the squad has a 12-day break after the London Stadium match before playing again against Everton on February 23, 2026.
The Red Devils have chosen not to use the break to play financially lucrative friendly matches abroad.
However, Carrick revealed that it could still happen if there was a further break in the schedule in March and April 2026.
"At this stage, nothing has been confirmed. We are aware of the schedule and there are some spaces we can use in different ways. Everything is still in the discussion stage at the moment," said Carrick.
