Digital Fraud Causes National Losses of up to Rp9 Trillion, Here are Tips to Prevent it

TANGERANG - The Indonesia Anti-Scam Center (IASC/IISC) has recorded around 400,000 national digital fraud reports with a total loss of Rp9 trillion in the last period.

The figure only reflects reported cases, so the potential for real losses is estimated to be much greater.

BCA Contact Center & Digital Service EVP, Adrianus Wagimin said that the majority of digital fraud victims actually come from the productive age group.

However, this cyber crime does not know the background of the victim and often targets anyone, including public figures.

"The main modus is still scamming, scammers posing as banks, police, or official institutions, as well as phishing through links or fake sites that resemble the original," said Adrianus in a discussion of Halo BCA Always Innovating to Serve Customers at the BCA Expoversary 2026 Mini Studio, ICE BSD, Tangerang, Friday, February 6.

Adrianus explained that fraud gaps often arise when the victim is in a hurry or his concentration is split.

The perpetrator took advantage of the situation to pressure the victim to make a decision immediately, such as making a large transfer without adequate verification.

Adrianus said that the shift in people's transaction behavior, which is now dominated by digital services, along with the decline in visits to branch offices. This condition, according to him, requires a higher level of vigilance from customers.

Three Steps to Reduce the Risk of Digital Fraud

To minimize the risk, Adrianus shared three simple prevention steps. First, he continued, if you are busy or not focused, you should not answer calls from unknown numbers claiming to be banks or companies.

"If you are confused or have more activities, my suggestion is to finish it first. If someone calls, I personally prefer to turn it off. Don't bother," he said.

Second, Andrianus continued, customers are asked to be more careful when receiving short messages or emails, especially paying attention to small details on the site address that are often manipulated, for example, changing the domain suffix such as ".co" to ".go".

"There is a-slank-an like that. So be careful, there is a game there. So if it is the same as the naked eye, then it is meticulous. Calm down, let's focus on work first," he said.

Third, he continued, if there is any doubt, customers are advised to immediately seek assistance through official channels to verify or block accounts to prevent further losses.

"Try to have the Halo BCA App, the goal is that if there is anything you can ask right away," he said.

Andrianus added that the Halo BCA application is now one of the main channels for fast reporting without a pulsa, including for live chat services, monitoring report status, to setting cards and accounts independently.

On the other hand, BCA also continues to coordinate with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Bank Indonesia, the police, and the national digital fraud prevention ecosystem to strengthen the overall fraud detection system.

Through continuous education and technology support, efforts to prevent digital fraud are expected to reduce the potential for community losses in the midst of massive digital-based financial activities.

"Those are three tips to prevent the risk of digital fraud," he said.
