Australian media says Albanese signs biggest deal with Indonesia in 30 years

JAKARTA - Australian media highlighted Prime Minister (PM) Anthony Albanese's visit to Indonesia to meet with President Prabowo Subianto.

It is stated by News.com.au, Friday, February 6, the visit was the moment of the signing of Australia's largest agreement with Indonesia in the last 30 years.

The core of the visit, which was also attended by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, was the new Australia-Indonesia Joint Security Agreement.

The agreement aims to increase the security partnership between the two countries "to a new level", for mutual security and regional security.

Albenese said the deal was "of great importance to Australia's national interest".

"But it is also an important relationship in our region," Albenese said in Jakarta on Friday, February 6.

Albenese said this agreement was the most substantial since the agreement between the leaders of the two countries in 1995, namely President of the Republic of Indonesia Soeharto with Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating.

"The important thing is, this is a higher level than the Keating deal, because the deal was at a lower level, while this is at the level of leaders and ministers," Albanese said.

"So, it shows something about the sentiment of the agreement," he continued.
