Zayn Malik Announces Release of New, More Exploratory Album
JAKARTA - Zayn Malik shared good news for his fans. The former member of One Direction officially announced the plan to launch his fifth studio album titled "Konnakol".
The full album will be released through Mercury Records on April 17. As an opener, Zayn is preparing to release a single titled "Die for Me" today, Friday, February 6.
"Konnakol" is touted as a form of Zayn's deeper exploration - developing a musical nuance that previously broke records on his debut album, "Mind of Mine".
"I feel very lucky to be able to make a fifth studio album. By definition, 'Konnakol' is the art of creating percussion sounds through human voices. But for me it means much more. It is a sound that holds the echoes of a time before words existed," Zayn said, quoted by Variety, Friday, February 6.
One of the interesting aspects of this album is the selection of a snow leopard as the cover illustration. This iconic symbol of South Asia was deliberately chosen to reflect how much the cultural heritage of his ancestors influenced this music project.
"I've always taken inspiration from my cultural heritage since I first started making music myself. This album is an evolution of that understanding; of knowing more than ever who I am, where I come from, and where I'm going," he added.
Prior to the album announcement, Zayn had just completed seven nights of residency at Dolby Live, Las Vegas, at the end of January. During the series of concerts, he gave a sneak peek of unreleased songs to the audience.
This move marks Zayn's return to the global music scene with more mature confidence and a solid identity.
