Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Promises Fishermen to Receive Pension in Memory of Today, February 6, 2021

JAKARTA - Today's memory, five years ago, February 6, 2021, the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Sakti Wahyu Trenggono promised fishermen could get pension money. This effort was presented to provide evidence that the state is involved in protecting and improving the welfare of fishermen.

Previously, the COVID-19 pandemic hit all sectors. The marine and fisheries sector was also affected, from distribution being hampered to a lack of demand for seafood from restaurants to restaurants.

No one underestimates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The massive transmission of the virus from Wuhan has overwhelmed many countries. This condition is because the corona virus not only increases the number of victims, but its impact destroys the economy.

Take an example in Indonesia. Many sectors are affected - mainly related to the livelihood of fishermen. Instead of the presence of the corona virus making them afraid of being infected, their livelihood is not prosperous.

All of this is because the demand for marine products is minimal. This condition is because many marine product management businesses such as restaurants and restaurants are closed during the pandemic. As a result, fishermen experienced a decrease in income during the pandemic. Moreover, those who have the status of traditional fishermen.

The government through the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) immediately took a stance. They tried to take the initiative to help. They then held various socialization to workshops. Fishermen tried to be taught to use various latest technology in the fishing world.

They also opened access to financing and funding. This support is considered to immediately improve the livelihood of fishermen. However, the matter of improving the livelihood of fishermen is not easy. This condition is because the pandemic is not clear when it ends.

"The purpose of this activity is to increase motivation, innovation, skills, competence and management of fishing activities. As we know now, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, small-scale fishermen are the most affected community," said Acting Director General of Capture Fisheries KKP Muhammad Zaini as quoted by the ANTARA page, September 15, 2020.

The steps taken by the KKP to help fishermen are clearly not enough. The owner of the power is thinking again to be able to really improve the living conditions of fishermen who are being suppressed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minister of Forestry and Environment, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, also intervened on February 6, 2021. He promised fishermen to get old-age insurance or retirement money. All of this is planned so that fishermen can feel that the state is present in providing protection and improving welfare.

The big framework that the government is currently working on is that fishermen must be able to get accident insurance, health insurance, and old-age benefits. He asked his staff to continue to coordinate to provide an old-age guarantee program for Indonesian fishermen.

"Protection and improvement of the welfare of fishermen are the priority achievements of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP).
