Gini Ratio of Jakarta Decreases to 0.423, Pramono Acknowledges He is Not Satisfied
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung responded to the release of the DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS) which recorded Jakarta's gini ratio in September 2025 at 0.423. This figure is down from March 2025 which was at the level of 0.441.
However, Pramono admitted that he was not completely satisfied with this achievement. The reduction in the Gini ratio that occurred at this time was considered not commensurate with the amount of budget that had been allocated by the local government.
"For Jakarta, it is very important to reduce the Gini Ratio. Although I am still not too satisfied with the decline, because the figure that the DKI Jakarta Government has handled the Gini Ratio is quite high, almost Rp. 2 trillion," said Pramono in Central Jakarta, Friday, February 6.
Pramono emphasized that controlling inequality was one of the main priorities of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. Therefore, a number of social assistance and education programs are ensured to continue even though there was an adjustment to the revenue fund budget.
"The gini ratio is one of my priorities. So why then should it not be reduced, namely the Smart Jakarta Card, the Outstanding Jakarta Student Card, the clearing of diplomas, and so on, even though there was a cut in the revenue sharing fund (DBH) yesterday," said Pramono.
Therefore, Pramono admitted that he would intensify efforts to further reduce the inequality rate in the capital. This starts from improving infrastructure and access to education for the less able community groups that are more improved.
"Yes, the first way is to improve the infrastructure owned by Jakarta. Providing ease for people who cannot afford to go to school, and we have done that," said Pramono.
He gave an example, the education assistance scheme in Jakarta has a relatively large coverage compared to other areas. One of them is through the KJP program which targets hundreds of thousands of students.
Pramono hopes that the impact of social and educational spending can be seen more significantly in the release of data next year. He is optimistic that the improvement of the ongoing policy can produce a sharper reduction in inequality.
"Maybe not many provinces, if you look at the percentage, who provide, for example, like KJP, almost 707,520 students, that's a big deal. The figure is Rp. 1.6 trillion. Then also KJMU and so on. I believe that to cut the gini ratio, education is the key," explained Pramono.
Previously, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta Province recorded a decrease in the inequality of Jakarta residents' spending in September 2025. This decline occurred in conjunction with the improvement in the poverty rate in the capital.
Head of BPS DKI Jakarta Province Kadarmanto said that Jakarta's gini ratio in September 2025 was recorded at 0.423. This figure is down compared to March 2025 which was at the level of 0.441 or decreased by 0.018 points.
He explained that the decline in the gini ratio indicates that the spending gap between the high-income and low-income population groups is narrowing.
"This means that the gap between the spending of the upper and lower classes is getting narrower. This reduction in inequality shows that the benefits of economic growth are beginning to be more evenly distributed among all groups of people," said Kadarmanto in a press statement, Thursday, February 5.
Even though it has improved, the inequality of Jakarta residents' spending is still in the moderate category if referring to the World Bank classification.
