Beware of Extreme Weather, BMKG Warns of Potential Heavy Rain in Several Provinces

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most major cities in Indonesia are potentially hit by rain with varying intensities on Friday, February 6.

BMKG Praktirawan Puji Sibuea reminded the public to increase vigilance against the potential for heavy to very heavy rain, especially in West Java, Central Java, Papua, and Papua Mountains.

"The readiness for the potential of heavy to very heavy rain in the West Java, Central Java, Papua, and Papua Highlands areas needs to be improved," said Puji in an online weather forecast, quoted by Antara on Friday morning.

In the Sumatra region, heavy cloudy weather is predicted to occur in Banda Aceh, Padang, and Jambi. Meanwhile, light rain is likely to fall in Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Pangkal Pinang, Bengkulu, Palembang, and Bandar Lampung.

For Java Island, all provincial capitals are predicted to experience light rain, namely Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya.

In Kalimantan, light rain is predicted to fall periodically in Pontianak, Palangka Raya, Banjarmasin, Samarinda, and Tanjung Selor.

Meanwhile, in Bali and Nusa Tenggara, light rain is potentially occurring in Denpasar and Mataram, while Kupang is expected to be hit by rain accompanied by lightning.

In Sulawesi, light rain is predicted to occur in Palu, Gorontalo, and Kendari. Meanwhile, Manado, Mamuju, and Makassar have the potential to experience moderate intensity rain.

For the eastern Indonesian region, light rain is predicted to fall in Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya. Meanwhile, Ternate and Merauke have the potential to experience moderate intensity rain.

BMKG urges the public to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather that can disrupt daily activities.
