Barcelona Considering Extending Lewandowski's Contract with Lower Salary
Barcelona are considering offering Robert Lewandowski a contract extension to stay at Camp Nou for at least one more season, but only on a reduced salary.
According to ESPN reports, the Poland national team captain will be a free transfer player this summer and his future at Barcelona is still uncertain.
Blaugrana manager, Hansi Flick, is pleased with Lewandowski's attitude and performance. That's why the club is studying various options to retain the player at least until June 2027.
Barcelona's priority this summer is to sign a striker who can compete with Ferran Torres.
ESPN reported last month that Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez remains Barcelona president Joan Laporta's ideal recruit, but the club are also considering other candidates such as Dusan Vlahovic, whose contract with Juventus expires in June 2026.
Barcelona are keen for Lewandowski, who will turn 38 in August 2026, to remain in a supporting role if he agrees to a pay cut.
So far, the Blaugrana are rumored to have not started negotiations with Lewandowski. However, Barcelona's Sports Director, Deco, and Flick intend to speak to the player soon to discuss his future.
The reason is, Barcelona believes that he can continue to play an important role in the locker room.
Lewandowski, who arrived at Camp Nou in 2022 from Bayern Munich, remains one of the highest-paid players at Barcelona.
By reducing Lewandowski's salary, Barcelona will be able to free up space to give a place to other players who will be recruited this summer.
The Blaugrana want to strengthen their defense with a central defender. They also have to decide whether to use the purchase option for Marcus Rashford, who joined on loan from Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Lewandowski has scored 116 goals in 186 matches for Barcelona and is reportedly a target for clubs in the Saudi Pro League and MLS (Major League Soccer).
