More than 9,300 Palestinians detained by Israel
JAKARTA - The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said that as of early February, more than 9,300 Palestinians were detained in Israeli prisons, according to data from the prisoner rights organization and the Israeli Prison Service.
The PPS said the number included 56 female prisoners, two of whom were still minors, and 350 children held in Megiddo and Ofer prisons.
As reported by ANTARA from WAFA, Thursday, February 5, the data shows that the number of administrative detainees, those who are detained without charge or trial, reached 3,358 people.
The figure is the highest compared to prisoners who have been sentenced, those held in pre-trial detention, and those categorized as "illegal combatants" by Israel.
According to the statement, the number of prisoners categorized as "illegal combatants" reached 1,249 people.
The number does not include all prisoners from Gaza who are held in Israeli military camps and are included in the category.
"It should be noted that this classification also includes Arab prisoners from Lebanon and Syria," the statement quoted as saying.
