Spotify Releases Offline Lyrics and Expanded Global Translation

JAKARTA - Spotify has once again touched the pulse of global music listening habits. In its latest update, the world's largest audio streaming platform officially introduced an offline lyrics feature for Premium users, while expanding lyrics translation support to more countries and refreshing the lyrics display in the application.

In its official statement, Spotify said this update was designed to improve the audio listening experience, especially for users who like to follow the lyrics of songs in real-time. The focus is simple but crucial: lyrics are now more accessible, easier to understand, and more frequently used.

The most striking feature is the presence of offline lyric access. Premium users can now see the lyrics of the song in full without an internet connection. This is a practical solution for users who are traveling, in areas with limited signal, or simply want to enjoy music without relying on data networks.

Spotify does not hide the fact that this feature is exclusive to paid subscribers. However, instead of cutting off free user access, the company chose to add value to the Premium package. This strategy feels like a lesson from the past, considering that in 2024 Spotify had limited access to lyrics for free users and reaped widespread complaints before finally softening.

"This update aims to make the music listening experience more immersive, where users can stay connected to lyrics anytime and anywhere," Spotify said in a statement.

In addition to offline lyrics, Spotify is also expanding the lyrics translation feature globally. The feature, which was first introduced in 2022, was previously only available in certain regions. Now, Spotify is expanding its coverage to most major markets in the world. If the translation is available, users can tap a special icon on the lyrics card to display the translation right below the original text. The translated language will automatically adjust to the language settings on the user's device.

Another change that is no less important is the update of the lyrics design. Spotify now places lyrics directly under the album cover or a short loop video on the Now Playing screen. According to Spotify, internal testing results show that this new layout makes users more often interact with lyrics compared to the previous design.

This move confirms Spotify's direction that increasingly sees lyrics not just as a complement to a song, but a core part of the listening experience. In an era where cross-language music is increasingly dominant, offline lyrics and global translation are no longer an added feature, but a necessity.

In short, Spotify wants to make sure one thing: whether you want to listen to a song, sing along, or understand its meaning, everything can be done even when the signal disappears. The world can be offline, but the chorus still goes on.
