Smuggling Cocaine to Bali, British Man Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison

DENPASAR - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Bali High Prosecutor's Office has demanded that a British citizen, Kial Garth Robinson, be jailed for 11 years for bringing 1.3 kilograms of cocaine from Spain to Bali.

The lawsuit against the defendant Kial Garth Robinson was read by JPU Dipa Umbara at the Denpasar District Court, Bali, Thursday, February 5.

The British man is also required to pay a fine of Rp1 billion with the note that if the fine is not paid, the defendant's property or income will be confiscated and auctioned.

If the result is still insufficient, the defendant will undergo a substitute sentence of 190 days in prison.

The prosecutor stated that the demand had taken into account the period of detention that the defendant had undergone.

Robinson was charged with violating Article 112 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics related to possession and evil conspiracy in the circulation of narcotics.

In his consideration, the JPU assessed that the defendant's actions did not support the government's efforts to eradicate the illicit circulation of narcotics.

However, the defendant's cooperative attitude during the trial and his frank confession of his actions were mitigating factors.

In response to the demands, the defendant's legal team, led by Robet Kuana, stated that they would submit a written defense or pledoi at the next hearing scheduled for Thursday (12/2).

Reported by ANTARA, in the indictment of the JPU it was revealed that this case began when Robinson arrived at the International Arrival Terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport on September 3, 2025 at around 20.30 Wita.

During the examination by the Ngurah Rai Customs and Excise officers, cocaine was found hidden in a black Samsonite backpack he was carrying from Barcelona, Spain.

From the results of the weighing at the Bali BNNP Office, the evidence in the form of two plastic packages containing white powder weighed 1,343.67 grams gross or 1,321 grams net. The cocaine was hidden on the back wall of the backpack.

To the officers, Robinson admitted that he carried the bag containing the narcotics at the order of someone named Santos.

He was asked to hand over the prohibited goods to someone with the initials PEW in Bali. In return, the defendant was promised a payment of 5,000 US dollars or the equivalent of around 5,000 US dollars in the form of cryptocurrency after the goods were handed over.

In addition, Santos has also sent 3,000 US dollars on September 1, 2025 to finance Robinson's travel and accommodation.

The funds were used to buy flight tickets from Barcelona to Bali and plans for further flights to Thailand, rent a villa in Bali, and other needs while in Indonesia.

In front of the officers, Robinson admitted that he had smuggled narcotics into Indonesia for the first time.
