BPS Records the Number of Poor People Decreasing to 23.36 Million as of September 2025
JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the number of poor people in Indonesia until September 2025 reached 23.36 million people.
BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti explained that the figure showed a decrease compared to March 2025 which was recorded at 23.85 million people.
He added that thus, around 490 thousand residents managed to get out of the poverty category.
"In percentage terms, Indonesia's poverty rate in September 2025 reached 8.25 percent or decreased by 0.22 percentage points compared to March 2025," he said in a press conference, Thursday, February 5.
He explained that the decline in the number of poor people was also seen when compared to September 2024 which still reached 24.06 million people.
Amalia added that this downward trend has been going on since the results of the BPS National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas) in March 2023, when the number of poor people was recorded at 25.9 million people.
Based on regions, the poverty rate in urban areas in September 2025 was recorded at 6.6 percent, or decreased 0.13 percentage points from March 2025 which was 6.73 percent.
Meanwhile, the poverty rate in rural areas reached 10.72 percent, or down 0.31 percentage points compared to the March 2025 period.
From the same survey results, BPS also noted an increase in the national poverty line by 5.3 percent compared to March 2025.
This calculation is based on the average household with 4.76 members.
Amalia said the poverty line per poor household was recorded at Rp3,053,269 per month.
"As a note, the national poverty line is a weighted average of the national poverty line is a weighted average of the provincial, city, and village poverty lines," he explained.
