Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Airlangga: The Textile SOEs Plan is Still Being Studied, the "New Perminas" Scheme Has Not Been Decided

JAKARTA - The government is still studying plans to revive state-owned enterprises in the textile sector, even though the discourse has been thrown as a major project. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that all concepts are still on the study table - including whether a new entity will be formed "like Perminas" and when the funding scheme will be decided.

"It is still being studied... it is still under study," said Airlangga after a doorstop at the State Palace, Thursday, February 5.

When asked whether the government would form a new textile SOE such as Perminas, Airlangga answered briefly, "Later we will see." He also could not mention the progress that had been achieved. "Still a study," he said again.

For your information, Perminas is a new BUMN launched by BPI Danantara. This BUMN is designed specifically to manage abandoned mines in Indonesia.

When asked about the "termin" or schedule for making a decision, the answer was still the same: "Not yet."

It is known that Prabowo Subianto is said to want to revive the textile SOEs to support the basic needs of the community - with the reason that the state must guarantee basic needs.

Previously, the Minister of Investment and Industrialization/Head of BKPM and CEO of BPI Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, stated that the investment plan in the textile sector, which is said to be able to reach US$6 billion or equivalent to around Rp. 101 trillion, must undergo in-depth studies and feasibility tests, including calculating the impact on labor. Rosan also opened the opportunity to receive lower returns if the labor absorption is greater - provided it is based on strict calculations.
