Want to Fly One Million Starlink, This is the Number of Satellites that SpaceX Owns in Earth Orbit
JAKARTA - SpaceX is the satellite internet provider with the most number of satellites in space. This is done so that the company can continue to carry out its vision, namely providing connectivity anywhere.
Currently, the number of Starlink satellites has reached 10,000 units in space. Although it seems a lot, this number is only the first step to build a larger constellation. The reason is that Elon Musk as the owner of SpaceX has greater ambitions.
Under Musk's shadow, SpaceX plans to have one million Starlink satellites in the future. This is done so that the company can build an integrated orbit data center system.
SpaceX has already received permission to launch an additional 7,500 satellites. That way, the company will have 19,400 units that can operate in the future. SpaceX is also allowed to lower the satellite's orbit to 340 kilometers.
By lowering its altitude, internet latency can be improved. In addition, SpaceX also plans to launch 15,000 satellites that offer 5G connectivity specifically to mobile phones. This project will connect satellite internet connections directly to mobile phones.
Details of the Starlink Satellite Count
The number of satellites that pass overhead depends heavily on geographic location. In Redmond, Washington, it is recorded that there are 24 to 42 satellites that pass regularly to broadcast the internet.
Meanwhile, regions with lower latitudes such as Florida have a slightly smaller number of satellites, namely around 17 to 36 units. This number can increase if the field of view is expanded from horizon to horizon.
A satellite usually takes about 10 minutes to pass over a user from one side of the horizon to the other. The entire community can monitor the simulation of the movement of the Starlink satellite through a special feature on the satellite tracking site.
