DPR-Ministry of Defense has not discussed the use of defense budget for BoP dues

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives TB Hasanuddin emphasized that until now there has never been an official discussion between Commission I of the House of Representatives and the Ministry of Defense regarding the use of defense budgets for the payment of Peace Council or Board of Piece (BoP) dues.

The membership fee is said to be worth 1 billion US dollars or almost around Rp17 trillion.

This was emphasized by TB Hasanuddin in response to the statement by Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa who stated that the funds for the Board of Peace (BoP) were planned to be taken from the Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan) budget.

TB Hasanuddin explained that in the working meeting of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives with the Ministry of Defense which was held on January 26, 2026, the agenda for discussion was focused on the achievement of the Ministry of Defense's work program in 2025 as well as the development and strengthening plan for the TNI for the period 2026-2029.

"In the meeting on January 26, there was no discussion regarding the allocation or use of defense budgets for the Peace Board membership. The focus of the meeting was entirely on evaluating the performance of the Ministry of Defense 2025 and the development plan for the TNI forces 2026-2029," TB Hasanuddin told reporters, Thursday, February 5.

According to him, every use of defense budget, especially in large amounts and strategically, must be discussed openly, transparently, and through the DPR oversight mechanism, especially Commission I which deals with defense, foreign affairs, and security.

TB Hasanuddin emphasized that the DPR has a constitutional function in overseeing the state budget, including ensuring that every rupiah of the defense budget is used appropriately, accountable, and in line with national interests.

"If there is indeed a plan to use defense budgets for international interests such as BoP dues, then it must be consulted and discussed with the DPR," he concluded.

Previously, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said that the Peace Board (Board of Peace) dues would always go through the Ministry of Defense.

"Yes, it will always go through the Ministry of Defense, right? It must always go through the Ministry of Defense," said Purbaya when confirmed by reporters in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 3.

However, until now the government has not decided whether the Peace Board fund, which was formed by US President Donald Trump, will take an additional portion of the State Budget (APBN) outside the defense budget.
