JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta Province recorded the number of poor people in Jakarta in September 2025 reaching 439,12 thousand people. This figure fell 0.25 percentage points compared to March 2025.

Head of BPS DKI Jakarta Kadarmanto said that Jakarta's poverty rate in September 2025 was recorded at 4.03 percent. In addition to being lower than March 2025, this figure also decreased by 0.11 percentage points compared to September 2024 which was 4.14 percent.

"The improvement of several macroeconomic indicators has led to a reduction in the number of poor people in the period March 2025 - September 2025. The number of poor people in September 2025 reached 439.12 thousand people, or decreased by 25.75 thousand people compared to March 2025," said Kadarmanto in a press statement, Thursday, February 5.

BPS revealed that the poverty rate in September 2025 was the lowest since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. However, BPS noted that the figure still has not returned to the position before the pandemic.

BPS also recorded the poverty line in DKI Jakarta in September 2025 at Rp897,768 per capita per month. This figure increased by 5.28 percent compared to March 2025 which was recorded at Rp852,768 per capita per month.

The poverty line component is still dominated by food needs. In September 2025, the contribution of the food poverty line reached 69.30 percent, while the non-food poverty line was 30.70 percent.

For food commodities, rice is the largest contributor to the food poverty line with a contribution of 24.44 percent. Followed by filter kretek cigarettes at 12.53 percent, broiler chicken meat at 7.75 percent, and broiler chicken eggs at 7.35 percent.

Meanwhile, from non-food commodities, housing is the largest contributor to the non-food poverty line with a contribution of 38.55 percent. Followed by electricity at 14.16 percent, education at 7.66 percent, and gasoline at 7.57 percent.

"With the poverty line in Jakarta at Rp897,768 per capita per month and the average number of poor household members being 5-6 people, on average, the poverty line per household in September 2025 is Rp4,578,617 per month, an increase of 9.57 percent compared to the March 2025 condition of Rp4,178,563," he said.

Along with the decline in poverty rates, the inequality of expenditure or gini ratio in DKI Jakarta has also been recorded as decreasing.

The portrait of poverty and inequality in Jakarta is supported by Jakarta's economic growth, increased household consumption, and a decrease in the open unemployment rate throughout 2025.

In addition, relatively controlled inflation in the period May to September 2025 also maintained people's purchasing power. BPS recorded a stable pattern of inflation and deflation during the period.

BPS also highlighted the role of various social assistance programs from the central government and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. Programs such as BPNT, PKH, KJP Plus, KJMU, to food assistance and basic needs are considered to contribute to reducing poverty.

"In general, the distribution of social assistance programs by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government during the period March-September 2025 was on time without delay," concluded Kadarmanto.
