Child and Women Violence Cases in Dompu Decrease

DOMPU - Violence against women and children in Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, has decreased although the trend shows an increase in the last three years.

The Head of the Dompu Regency Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (P3A) Office, Miftahul Suadah, said the decrease in the total number of cases did not necessarily reflect the improving child protection conditions.

"Although in general the number of violence has decreased, we still pay serious attention to violence against children which is still increasing. Family and environmental-based prevention will be the main focus in the future," he said in Dompu, Antara, Thursday, February 5.

Data from the Dompu Regency P3A Office stated that the number of cases of violence in 2023 was 168 cases, then decreased to 141 cases in 2024, and continued to decrease to 139 cases in 2025.

"However, this total decline was not followed by cases of violence against children," he said.

Throughout 2023, the P3A Office recorded 78 cases of violence against children, increasing to 84 cases in 2024, and rising to 88 cases in 2025. Conversely, cases of violence against women actually decreased from 90 cases in 2023 to 57 cases in 2024 and continued to fall to 51 cases in 2025.

Regionally, Dompu and Woja Districts are still the areas with the highest number of cases in the last three years. In 2025, Dompu District recorded 18 cases of violence against women and 43 cases of violence against children, while Woja District recorded 18 cases of women and 21 cases of children.

Meanwhile, other sub-districts such as Pajo, Hu'u, Manggelewa, Kilo, Kempo, and Pekat recorded lower case numbers, although in some areas there were fluctuations, especially in cases of violence against children.

Based on its type, physical and sexual violence still dominate. In 2025, physical violence against children was recorded as many as 24 cases, while against women six cases. Meanwhile, sexual violence against children was recorded as one case in male victims and 30 cases in female victims.

In addition, cases of neglect and other types of violence are still found, with seven cases in children and five cases in women.

Head of the Dompu Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA), Utari Rahmiati, said that his party continued to educate the public to increase protection for children as the next generation.

"We continue to educate the public so that children are seen as assets that must be protected and their rights fulfilled so that they can grow and develop optimally. This requires the attention of all parties, especially parents and families," he said.

He added that violence against children often occurs in the victim's immediate environment, so the role of the family and the social environment is an important factor in prevention.

Therefore, the P3A Office and the PPA Dompu UPTD also encourage the village government to be more active in paying attention to children's growth and development, including ensuring the protection of children's rights through programs and regulations at the village level.

"Parents must know the activities and social environment of children so that the potential for mischief and violence can be anticipated early on," he said.

Most recently, the case of violence against children in Dompu has again become the focus of public attention after going viral on social media. The case of physical and verbal violence occurred at a cafe in the tourist area of Lakey Beach, Hu'u District, on January 16, 2026.

This case came to light after a surveillance camera (CCTV) recording of about one minute from Lakey's Boat Cafe circulated. In the recording, an adult man with a tattoo is seen allegedly committing violence against a boy with the initials ABM, who is known to be an accomplished young surfing athlete and is a member of the Indonesian Surfing Association (PSOI) Dompu Regency.

As a result of the incident, the victim suffered bruises on the face, eyes, legs, head, and back, as well as deep trauma. The Dompu Regency P3A Office together with the PPA UPTD accompanied the victim and his family, both in the legal process and psychological assistance.

Currently, the case is handled by the Dompu Police PPA Unit. The alleged perpetrator with the initials JD alias Dewa (41) has been arrested by the police on Saturday (31/1) at his residence and was secured at the Dompu Police Headquarters.
