Istana Gives Signal for the Inauguration of the New Minister of Finance to Be Held Thursday Afternoon

JAKARTA - Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi gave a signal for a swearing-in ceremony for the deputy minister of finance at the State Palace, Jakarta, Thursday afternoon, to fill the position previously held by Thomas Djiwandono.

Thomas Djiwandono resigned from his position as Deputy Minister of Finance after his nomination as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia was approved by the Indonesian House of Representatives on January 27, 2026.

"The plan is there, but until last night (Wednesday, 4/2) it has not been decided so that if there is, it is likely to only add or fill the position left by Mr. Thomas Djiwandono, who is now serving as Deputy (Governor) of Bank Indonesia," said Prasetyo as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 5.

However, Pras, a nickname for Prasetyo, is not ready to announce the name of the Minister of Finance chosen by President Prabowo Subianto who will replace Thomas.

Apart from that, the former Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia Juda Agung is currently believed to be a strong candidate for the wamenkeu position to replace Thomas.

"It will be announced in due course," said Pras when asked about the possibility of Juda Agung being inaugurated as the Minister of Finance today.

On a separate occasion, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa once named Juda Agung as a strong candidate for the position of minister of finance.

"It looks (Juda Agung). I have met him, and it looks like one of the strong candidates," said Purbaya when met after the Indonesia Fiscal Forum (IFF) 2026 in Jakarta, Tuesday (27/1).

Juda Agung has resigned from his position as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia since January 13, 2026.

Meanwhile, Thomas Djiwandono has currently been appointed as the Deputy Governor of BI for the period 2026-2031 based on the results of the 12th DPR RI Plenary Meeting of the III Session of the 2025-2026 Session at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on January 27, 2026.
