Kristen Stewart Buys a Movie Theater to Save a Film

JAKARTA - Actress Kristen Stewart revealed that she had just bought a closed cinema building in Los Angeles, United States. She had surprised the public with her desire to move from America, especially under the leadership of the era of Donald Trump.

Stewart bought the Highland Theatre building in Highland Park, Los Angeles. The Highland cinema closed on February 29, 2024 ahead of its 100th anniversary.

"I've always been impressed by old theaters. I always wanted to see what mystery they were keeping," Kristen Stewart said, quoted by Architectural Digest.

"I didn't realize I was looking for a theater until this place caught my attention. Then it was like a shot and a match, I did whatever I had," he said.

He sees the cinema building can be restored to show films, both independent or big studios, not just a business.

"We want to make it like a family affair, something for the community. Not just for Hollywood cinephiles, but I see it as an antidote to corporations - a place where the culture of film is seen as just buying and selling," he said.

Currently, Stewart is trying to improve the building because there are several things that are needed. He also convinced this building could become something for the film community.

Kristen Stewart is not the only public figure to buy a cinema building to support the growth of films. Director Quentin Tarantino manages cinemas in New Beverly and Vista.

In addition, Jason Reitman, Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, and actor Bradley Cooper also bought the Fox Village building in Hollywood.
